As we drove towards Stratford, we saw the signs to Hidcote Gardens, so decided to go there first and then on to Stratford.
Hidcote Gardens are fabulous! I loved them. The designer of the gardens was an American, who bought the property and then designed the gardens along a number of rooms. It is a whole lot of small gardens, beautifully linked and very rewarding to walk thru. One of the guides told us the gardens weren't at their best, so they must be stunning as they were really lovely, even in the foggy morning. This is another National Trust property.
We met a couple who were caravaning and had just come back from Cornwall and were on their way home to Derbyshire. They have a daughter who is in Australia. We were talking about our holiday and they were impressed with the amount of countryside we are seeing. They visit the Fort William area and visit a little town between Mallig and Fort William often, and sugggested we pop in to see it as it is charming.
I would recommend this garden to visit if you are ever in the area!

We spent a long time exploring the garden, and only left because we thought we should go on to Stratford-upon-Avon....
I suppose Stratford-upon-Avon is one of the iconic places in England being the birthplace of William Shakespeare. Having said that, it is very touristy.
We did visit the place where he was born...
Anne Hathaway's Cottage with it's lovely more rural setting, we walked there and back past some allotment gardens...
And the back to the church in which he was buried...
With the Avon flowing thru the city, it is rather attractive and has lots of older buildings.
