However after seeing how nice our room was we decided to have two nights at the Zanzibar in Morocco. So, next a morning we had a delicious breakfast, for me cereal - weetabix, much nicer then weetabix, followed by lovely fresh fruit and yoghurt then toast with delicious marmalade, while Peter had cereal and a hot breakfast.
We decided to visit Scotney Castle as the woman at Sissinghurst told us there is a brewery near there and their beer is very good, and visit the site of the Battle of Hastings and Rye, a Tudor town nearby.
The site of the Battle of Hastings was turned into an abbey by William the Conqueror in reparation for the number of deaths during the battle. There is a museum in the gate house which gives you a chance to look inside tho this is a latter addition - in the 1300s I think. It is quite magnificent.
We took a tour around the Battlefield site, those with the audio tracks could follow the story better than we, as the boards ran out!!!! War must have been terrifying then, as it is now. There is a school in what's left of the Abbey. But you can have a wander around the dormitory and common rooms for the novices.
It was a lovely day, sunny and bright and I'll put some pictures in when we have some wi-fi access.
We had lunch across the road at a proper Tudor looking tea room, in the garden. Then it was off to Scotney Castle.
Scotney Castle has an original medieval castle surrounded by moat, which is now mostly in ruins and a more recent 1830s built house above it on the hill. The house is pretty much as it was left by the previous owner who, when she died in the 2000's I think, left the property to the National Trust. It was very interesting to look thru, they were great readers with books all throughout the house. The kitchen was not very modern! She loved cats, so there are books and pictures about cats everywhere, and she left instructions for her cat to remain there until it passes away. The cat is still alive, and sleeps in the kitchen, but apparently hides during the day.
We've bought a bottle of the local beer there, which we will have to try once we've cooled it down.
After leaving Scotney Castle we drove to the town of Rye, which is a Tudor village. It was getting late and we were loosing the light, so had a quick look then found Webbe's a seafood restaurant and had cod and chips for tea. It was lovely, the batter was excellent.
We returned to Morocco and had another night in the heavens (loft)!
